Meet the instructors

Nathalie Spittler holds a PhD in Environment and Natural Resources from the University of Iceland and a PhD in Economics from the University of Clermont Auvergne, France. She has an inter- and transdisciplinary background in sustainable development, with a focus on sustainable energy and ecological economics. Her work in ERASME focuses on modelling the SDGs on national level and applying systems thinking to urban contexts. Nathalie is core member of ERASME’s management team.

Claudiu Eduard Nedelciu  holds a PhD in Environment and Natural Resources from the University of Iceland and a PhD in Physical Geography from Stockholm University. He is the Vice-President of ERASME, where his work focuses on using systems thinking and system dynamics modelling to look at sustainable natural resource management in the context of economic transition and decarbonisation. He is core member of ERASME’s management team.

Jóhanna Gísladottir holds a PhD in Environment and Natural Resources from the University of Iceland and a PhD in Physical Geography from Stockholm University. Her research work focuses on using systems thinking and system dynamics modelling to look at corruption in natural resource management. Jóhanna is also a sessional teacher in public administration at the University of Iceland and the environmental manager for the Agricultural University of Iceland.

Derek Chan has been working with System Dynamics since 2010. He holds a PhD in Management from McGill University. Derek focuses particularly on System Dynamics applications to national- and sub-national- level planning and to Sustainable Development, Food Systems and Education. He is a Senior Policy Analyst at the Millennium Institute and a Postdoctoral Researcher at ERASME-Université Clermont-Auvergne. Derek is lead instructor for the French track of the online course.
